Congress captures majority seats

MALDA, July 2:- Out of 15 Panchayat Samities (PS) the Congress has formed eight boards with the support of BJP and others in Malda district. The rest of the seven Panchayat Samities are under the control of the CPI (M) led Left Front.The Congress has been able to capture five PS in this district namely, Harishchandrapur I and II, Kaliachak II, Manikchak and Old Malda. In Harishchandrapur I P S, Mrs. Eti Rajak, a Congress candidate, was elected as Sabhapati. The Congress had bagged 20 seats out of 21 and one Independent candidate was elected after the rural polls. No CPI(M) and F B candidate was elected here.In Harishchandrapur II PS, Mr. Kashem Sheikh, a Congress candidate, was elected as Sabhapati. Out of 25 seats, the Congress had won 21 seats here. The Congress has been able to retain Chanchal I PS electing its candidate Mr. Intaz Hossian and his deputy. Here the Congress had won 17 seats out of 24 . The BJP had won one seat and the CPI (M) had bagged only six seats. The CPI (M) has been able to capture the Chanchal II P S and Mrs. Gopa Mukherjee was elected as Sabhapati. The CPI (M) bagged 12 seats here out of 21 and the Congress had secured only nine seats. In Ratua IPS, Mr. Hesamuddin was elected as Sabhadhipati on behalf of the Congress. The Congress had bagged 19 seats out of 29. The RSP won only two, the CPI (M) had bagged seven and there was an Independent candidate. But in Ratua II, the CPI (M) candidate Mr. Subrata Karmakar was elected as Sabhapati. The CPI (M) had won 18 seats and the Congress had only 6 seats.In Manikchak, the Congress has been able to take the PS board from the clutch of the CPI (M) with the support of the BJP. The Congress had won 15 seats out of 29. Mrs. Rehena Bibi was elected as Sabhapati despite internal squabbling of the local Congress. The CPI (M) had bagged 12 seats, the CPI had only one. In Old Malda PS , the Congress candidate Mrs. Mira Sarkar was elected as Sabhapati and the BJP candidate Mrs. Champai Besra was elected as Saha-Sabhapati. The Congress and the BJP jointly formed this board. Out of 17 seats, the Congress had only seven and the BJP had won four seats.The CPI(M) had been able to retain the Gazole P S today. Mr. Mandal Murmu was elected as Sabhapati. The CPI(M) had won 30 seats out of 42. In Bamongola PS , another red bastion, the CPI(M) has been able to elect its candidate Mrs. Kabita Mandal as Sabhapati. The CPI(M) had won 12 seats out of 18. Though the Habibpur PS was under the control of the BJP-Congress but this year the CPI (M) has been able to capture the board after electing its candidate Mr. Dhiren Muriary. Out of 26 seats the CPI (M) had won 13 seats and CPI had won one. On the other hand, the BJP had secured only eight. The Trinamul had one and the Congress had only three. In English Bazaar P S , the CPI (M) has been able to snatch the board from the clutch of the Congress. Mr. Akram Hossian , a CPI(M) candidate, was elected as Sabhapati. The CPI (M) had won 15 seats out of 31. One CPI candidate was elected here. The Congress had won 15 seats here. In Kaliachak I P S , the CPI(M) has been able to capture the board from the Congress and elected its candidate Mr. Lutfar Rahaman as Sabhapati. The CPI(M) had won 24 seats here out of 40 one and the rest was under the control of the Congress. The Congress has been able to capture Kaliachak II PS and elected its candidate Mrs. Shibani Biswas Choudhury. The Congress had won 18 seats out of 22 ones. In Kaliachak III P S , the Congress has been able to retain its board and Mr. Dilip Mandal was elected as Sabhapati. The Congress had won 24 seats out of 39.
