MALDA, July 1: Union minister and WB Congress chief Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi has finally intervened in the police case against the English Bazaar MLA Mr KN Choudhury.Mr Das Munshi had a meeting with the Malda S P Mr Satyaji Bandyopadhyay on the issue at the Malda circuit house today. Although the SP described the meeting as a courtesy visit, sources in the Congress said: “Mr Das Munshi discussed three incidents that occurred in Malda recently including a police case against the English Bazaar MLA Mr K N Choudhury.”The Malda S P Mr Bandyopadhyay told reporters that police could arrest the MLA but was not in a hurry to do so since he was an elected representative and a political personality. According to the Congress leadership, Mr Das Munshi inquired about the attacks on Trinamul district secretary Mr Dulal Sarkar, murder case of Biswanath Guho, vice chairman of English Bazaar Municipality and district president INTUC, and cause of registering cases against the English Bazaar MLA with non-bailable sections attached. The Malda S P reportedly urged the Union minister to watch video footage of the violence at Kazigram on 26 June, collected from the spot by different sources, which would reveal the role of the English Bazaar MLA. The English Bazaar MLA Mr K N Choudhury had also collected video footage to show the public how the police and CPI-M workers allegedly tried to attack him at Kazigram when trouble broke out following the controversy over the formation of the gram panchayat board.
