Malda administration keeps its vigil on Board formation

Statesman Newsc Service
MALDA, July 1:- As 15 Panchayet Samitis will coalesce into a board in Malda district, tomorrow, the police administration has urged all police stations to arrange adequate forces at each Panchayat base over there. In the past, a violent clash erupted between the CPI(M) and Congress supporters over a controversial board formation at Kazigram Gram Panchayat. To stay clean, the Malda administration has decided to keep its vigil over the panchayat samiti offices, from morning to evening, tomorrow, by imposing the prohibitory order of Section 144 Cr. PC within 100 metres radius of all its bases.Enraged by ‘unexpected’ results of board formation, political parties that do not have absolute majority, may resort to violence, according to the police. Tension still prevails in many panchayat samities, where a political party is leading marginally with the help of its allies or any independent candidate to capture the board. In English Bazaar panchayat samiti, the LF is leading marginally with its only one ally, the CPI. Security will be tightened on Old Malda Panchayat Samiti since none of the parties, the Congress or the LF, has got majority over there. Without the help of elected candidates of BJP, neither the Congress nor the L F, will be able to elect the chief of the Old Malda panchayat samiti. The party sources said that the CPI (M) has decided to field its candidate for the sabhapati election in Old Malda panchayat samiti, tomorrow.
