Student hospitalised after being slapped by teacher

MALDA, July 8: Controversy broke out in Malda today after a lady teacher of a school in Samsi allegedly slapped a class III student yesterday. The child's guardian lodged a complaint with the Chanchal police station today demanding punishment of the concerned teacher.It was reported that the teacher slapped Asif Iqbal for making noise in the classroom yesterday following which the child fell ill after returning to the hostel. The hostel superintendent later informed the authorities and the child's father of the boy's ill health. A local doctor examined him and advised the authorities to admit him to a hospital for treatment.Asif's father brought his son to Malda district hospital last night as he was suffered pain around his ear and head. The hostel superintendent Mrs Roseline Lethorn said: “I noticed that Asif was suffering from ear pain last evening. I asked him about his problem. He and his friends informed me that he had been punished in the classroom.” Asif was discharged from Malda district hospital this evening.
