MALDA, July 30: The Malda police seized Rs 3.19 lakh in fake Indian currency from two separate places and arrested one person in this connection, officials said today.The police have arrested one Sarafat Ali from the Urush fairground at Pandua in Gazole police station. The local court remanded Sarafat, a resident of Katihar in Bihar, to police custody for seven days. The police are on the lookout for one Ramesh Mandal and his wife Sucharini Mandal, residents of Chorianantapur under Baishnabnagar police station, in connection with the case. According to the police, a footwear shop owner at Urush fair informed the police about Sarafat who had given him a fake five rupee note. According to Malda SP Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhyay, the couple from Chorianantapur fled the area leaving behind a packet, which the BSF recovered. The packet contained Rs 3 lakh in fake Indian currency. The BSF handed over the fake currency to the police and lodged a complaint against the couple. “We are certain that fake notes from Bangladesh are being circulated in India,” said Mr Bandyopadhyay. n SNS
