Probe follows child home inmate's death

MALDA, July 6: After the arrest of Mr Sukumar De Das, the superintendent of Sahapur Child Welfare Home, the district administration has started a magisterial inquiry into the institution following the death of a 14-year-old inmate who was electrocuted. Police arrested Mr Das last evening on charges of negligence based on the complaint lodged by the district administrative official. The additional district magistrate Mr P C Sit has started a probe into the matter. Yesterday, the Malda sub divisional officer closed down the Home for a certain period. The administration has planned to start its reconstruction with a special emphasis on electric wiring . After its completion, the Home will start functioning, officials said. An inmate was recently electrocuted due to damaged electric wiring. following which 35 inmates staged a protest . Police had arrested 12 inmates of this state run Home on charges of rioting on 3 July. n SNS
