Primary school inaugurated in Old Malda

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Sept 8: A primary school for child labourers was inaugurated by the commandant of the state arms police, Mr TF Sherpa, today at Mangalbari in Old Malda. Inaugurating the primary school, Mr Sherpa said: “The school was earlier situated within the FCI depot, but following objection from FCI general manager, we had to make an alternative arrangement and thus constructed a temporary shed outside the depot.” Mr Sherpa distributed education materials to 200 child labourers at another school in Narayanpur, Kaliachak. Mr Sherpa said that five such schools had been set up at Malda, two schools in North Dinajpur district and two such schools in South Dinajpur in the last three months. The students here are taught by Army personnel. “Our men have been instructed to enroll child labourers and dropout students working in tea stalls, hotels and other such sectors for primary education,” Mr Sherpa said.
