Sailen raps Congress

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Sept. 14: The CPI-M candidate for Malda Lok Sabha by-poll, Mr Sailen Sarkar, today accused the Malda Congress leaders of resorting to campaign on communal lines in the minority dominated belts here, in order bag maximum votes. Referring to the alleged deployment of moulavis for the by-poll campaign by the Malda Congress, the CPI-M candidate, Mr Sarkar, today said: “Malda Congress leaders have resorted to campaign on communal lines here. They have assigned a group of clerics to inform the minority voters to cast their votes in favour of the Congress candidate, Mr AH Khan Choudhury.”The Malda CPI-M candidate today strongly criticised Malda Congress candidate, Mr AH Khan Choudhury, saying that the latter had ultimately realised that the people would not vote for him in the Malda by-poll. So, the Congress candidate, Mr Sarkar alleged, was left with no alternative but to play the communal card, inspite of the fact that the party leaders claim themselves to be secular-minded. Mrs Rubi Noor, Congress district president, said: “We have not assigned any religious men for campaigns. Our elder brother (late ABA Ghnai Khan Choudhury) was secular and so is the Congress party.”
