Agriculture before industrialisation : Minister


MANIKCHAK (Malda), Dec. 28: “When agriculture is our foundation, we need to make a strong base of agriculture and agro-based industries first to secure food guarantee before industrialisation of this state," said the land and land reforms minister, Mr Abdur Rezzak Molla. Addressing a government programme for distribution of land and its ‘record of rights’ (Patta) among the landless farmers at Manikchak block office today, the minister also said: “ If we do not have a strong agricultural base, the future of industry will not last on a weak foundation." “Industry does not provide food for all of us. We need to confirm food guarantee first, then we need to start the process of industrialisation," he added. “Out of the total agricultural land, nearly 82 per cent belong to poor people who has been providing us food guarantee," he claimed. Citing some agri-export zone in north and south Bengal, he said: “ We are inviting big industrialists to set up agro-based industries". Distributing 363.78 acres of agriculture lands and its record of rights to 638 farmers in Manikchak block today, the minister approached the government officials to stop bad practice to transfer record of rights.He said the panchayat official would take an initiative to inform the block officials if there was any report of illegal transfer of patta.
