RSP leader arrested for 'kidnapping' CPM man's relative

MALDA, Dec. 23: Malda police arrested Mr Mirajul Basni, a local RSP leader of Sujapur in Kaliachak police station last night on charges of attacking and kidnapping a relative of the CPI(M) branch secretary Mohammad Ketabuddin. Interestingly, police are looking for Ketabuddin following a complaint lodged by the wife of Mirajul Basni. She complained that hundreds of people led by Ketabuddin attacked their house and it was set on fire. Police said that hundreds of people raided the newly constructed three storied building around 12.30 p.m. yesterday at Sujapur and damaged the building by setting it on fire. Unrest has been prevailing in Sujapur for last few weeks owing to continuous clashes between two groups of miscreants led by the local political leaders. Police are looking for a criminal Saharul Islam allegedly close to local Congress leaders. The local CPI(M) leaders demanded arrest of Saharul for acts of hooliganism.A few days ago police recovered seven muskets from the house of a ration dealer at Sujapur and more than 30 crude bombs from a field of mulberry plantation.The district police asked the IC, Kaliachak police station to control the situation with iron hands.
