Crude bomb kills child


MALDA, Dec. 5: Two persons including a one-year-old boy were killed and another youth injured in an explosion at Ghera Bhagabanpur village, close to the Indo-Bangladesh border, under Baishnabnagar police station last late evening. Malda SP, Mr S Bandyopadhayay, said: “Thirty-year-old Anish, a wanted criminal according to our police record, was mixing ingredients to make crude bombs on the roof of their house. When another member Marfat Sheikh started helping him to make the bombs they suddenly exploded. One-year-old Mamon, who was playing there died due to explosion,” he said. Anish was admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition, police said. The officer incharge visited the spot and talked to the villagers including the panchayat officials to confirm the information. Police confirmed that the deceased were involved in crime along the borders for many years. n SNS
