Criminals detained


MALDA, Dec. 12: - Two local criminals were detained by police today on charges of robbery in Harischandrapur police station limits yesterday night, additional S P, Mr Sujit Sarkar said. A group of 10 to 12 armed robbers raided the house of Mahabir Prasad at Tulsihata village in Harishchandrapur, close to Bengal Bihar border and robbed valuable ornaments and cash. The robbers after committing the crime fled the area and entered Bihar, which was five km from the place of of the incident, police said. The gang reportedly hails from Bihar. “Interestingly the robbers had left two-barrel guns there”, the additional S P, Mr Sarkar said. The police have detained two local criminals for interrogation and are trying to find out any connection with the gang, he added. The robbers attacked the house of the local trader Mr Mahabir Prasad by hurling huge bombs and fled. Mr Prasad was injured when he tried to resist them. He is undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Police faced public wrath when they reached the village. Locals alleged that police came after one hour despite several phone calls to the police station. n sns
