Malda horticulture department yet to disburse funds

MALDA, Dec 30: The director of food processing industries and horticulture, Mr PK Pramanik, held a meeting here today with the district administrative officials to review the scenario of the schemes implemented under the guidance of the National Horticulture Mission (NHM). At the review meeting, it was found that under the NHM, several schemes have been implemented, but the Malda horticulture department could not disburse due funds to the beneficiaries. It was found that a total of Rs 2 crore is still unspent. The district officials pointed out that due to inadequate manpower, the funds are yet to be disbursed among the beneficiaries. Official sources said that the director FPI&H, Mr Pramanik, has instructed to clear the amount by March 2008. It was decided that the department would appoint staff on contract basis for the immediate disbursement of the funds.The horticulture officials said that many beneficiaries had extended new areas for mango orchards under the scheme, but they did not receive the fund allotted for the project. Similarly some small farmers have made preparations for setting up nurseries under the NHM project, but they did not get the money on time. The Malda district magistrate, the Zilla Parishad sabhadhipati, the additional district magistrate and other officials attended the review meeting.
