School teachers' increment stalled

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Dec. 4: The Malda district inspector (DI) of schools has decided not to allow increment of such school teachers who provided masters degree documents from BN Mandal University in Bihar. The Malda DI said: “We are in the process of verifying their certificates from the authorities of the university. But the University authorities did not confirm any mark sheet or certificate and replied that ‘the matter is under state vigilance’ till date”. Since the authorities are not confirming the masters degree certificate of the teachers’, we are not in a position to allow their increment on the basis of their higher education scale, the D I Mr Chinmay Sarkar said. The matter is pending over the years. According to the DI office, in last six years there were huge certificates submitted by the teachers of various secondary schools and madrasas. The Bihar government has been investigating the matter for particular educational sessions when huge fake mark sheet and certificates were issued. A few days ago the DI has decided to allow increments for 25 teachers who had submitted MA and M Sc degrees obtained from Kanpur University. "The Kanpur University authorities have confirmed their certificate as genuine”, Mr Sarkar said.
