Magistrate urged to stop traders' interview

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Dec. 5: The district secretary of the Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce, Mr Jayanta Kundu, has requested the district magistrate, in a letter, to immediately stop the interview of the traders for the allotment of stalls at the English Bazaar Regulated Market Complex. He also asked the magistrate yesterday, to issue a fresh notice after cancelling the procedure. Mr Kundu argued that the Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce had recommended the names of some businessmen earlier according to a discussion with the authorities but the English Bazaar Regulated Market Committee had not alloted space to those businessmen. "But the secretary of the English Bazaar Regulated Market Complex has served a notice (464/EBRMC/07 dated 16.11.07) to Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce for fresh interview of traders for the allotment of space in its complex,” Mr Kundu pointed out. The Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce has forwarded a copy of the letter to the principal secretary for agriculture marketing, the minister for agriculture marketing and other concerned officials. It may be noted that in order to ease traffic snarl, the district administration and concerned department have been trying hard to shift a portion of the wholesale market from the Netaji super market located at Rathbari but failed to implement it due to several reasons.
