An affair that turns sour...


MALDA, Aug 13: Love knows no borders or maybe limits. The tragic end to a supposed love story that unfolded in Malda today proved it once again.Joydeb Haldar, a Bangladeshi infiltrator had apparently fallen in love with an Indian beauty, who was his relative too. His proposal to marry her, however, was rejected. Not being able to bear the pain Joydeb committed suicide today by hanging himself from a mango tree. Locals say Haldar ended his life over the love affair. Haldar, a resident of Tanowar, Rajsahi district in Bangladesh had sneaked across the border to his maternal aunt Mrs Panchami Haldar's house on Sunday, to take his mother Mrs Hema Haldar back home. Joydeb who had a family back in Bangladesh had fallen in love with his cousin. “He had told us that he would marry the girl,” the locals claimed elaborating that he might have ended his life after his proposal to marry the girl met with rejection. Residents at Jaharatala where Joydeb's body was found hanging today was shocked over the incident. The girl, who finds herself under focus all on a sudden, however, said that Joydeb had come to take back his mother home. “Today we got to know that he had committed suicide.” Amidst such chaos and confusion, Joydeb's mother reportedly fled, as she was nowhere to be found.The incident might have sparked gossip, but police are not taking the matter lightly.“It is an indication as to how easily infiltrators sneak in and out of the country. The situation is alarming,” the Malda SP Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay said.They are now looking for Joydeb's mother who is absconding. n SNS
