Locals help orphan get married


MALDA, Aug. 14: Independence Day will henceforth hold special significance for a certain orphan girl, for the Malda district administration has selected 15 August to organise her marriage ceremony. Palee Ghosh, also known as Kali, is a inmate of the child development home who now resides at a state run home on Manaskamana Road. According to district social welfare officer Mr P K Dey, local businessman Mr Sukumar Mahanta decided to marry Palee when she proposed to him.A group of district officials led by Mr Dey today distributed invitation cards among several personalities including the district magistrate Mr CR Das. The social welfare department has allotted Rs 12,000 for the wedding ceremony. The district magistrate and his staff will present a national savings certificate to the couple. According to officials, some non-governmental organisations including Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce and Shelter of Malda are also planning to contribute considerably to the dinner party. n SNS
