Meet to combat cyber crime

MALDA, Aug 3: In order to curb cyber crime the Malda district magistrate Mr C R Das will hold a meeting with all local cyber café owners soon.The superintendent of police in Malda Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay has already approached the district magistrate for monitoring all cyber cafés in the district.“To implement the specific guidelines for monitoring the systems at cyber cafes the district magistrate will interact with café owners soon”, said Mr Bandyopadhyay. The café owners will be briefed about the guidelines and it is their duty to monitor known and unknown Internet users. It has been found that more than 26 cyber cafes are functioning in English Bazaar town.After appearance of newspapers reports of cyber crimes a group of ‘confused’ café owners held a meeting to take a decision on how to follow the guidelines which would be framed by the district administration based on the guidelines framed by the Kolkata police.Many of them, who did not have trade license certificates from the Municipality, are trying to renew them after the government's decision to bring all cafés under the scanner. The café owners have also decided to form an association to fight the ‘police highhandedness’ when all cafes will come under the control of this department directly. They also made a plan to meet the district administration soon after the formation of this association.
