Flood victims rescue nilgai

MALDA, Aug 19: Flood victims rescued a ‘nilgai’ from the Ganga and handed it over to the forest department today.The animal, suffering from dehydration, has been rehabilitated and is undergoing treatment at Adina forest in Gazole. Residents of Jalalpur in Manikchak block were shifting to safer areas last night when they noticed the animal floating in the river.When the animal came close to the bank, they realised it was a ‘nilgai'. They rescued it and informed the local police station.Divisional forest officer Mr R Jakhar took initiative to rehabilitate the ailing ‘nilgai’ at the Adina Deer Park today.According to him, the animal is a female, 2-3 years old and was suffering from dehydration. MALDA, Aug 19: Out of a few lakh traders only a total of 16,900 traders in Malda district are in the list of legal metrology who regularly renew its weights and measures system. The district legal metrology officials disclose the figure at a meeting with the traders’ body Malda Merchants of Commerce convened by the district magistrate yesterday. n SNS
