MALDA, Aug 18: In order to curb malpractices in the markets the district magistrate Mr. C R Das has decided to continue the special drive across the district to check weights and measures including other systems related to retail market prices of various products manipulated by ‘dishonest’ traders. This decision was taken after the leaders of traders’ body affiliated to the Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce foiled the special drive mid way in English Bazaar town on Saturday. The traders were involved in argument with the district's top administrative officials preventing them from carrying out their job after identifying six ‘dishonest’ traders in local markets. The district magistrate has taken the matter as ‘serious challenge’ after the MMCC leaders called government officials of legal metrology as ‘bribe takers’ during the special drive on Saturday. n SNS
