MALDA, Aug. 29: The Malda district administration has alerted all 15- block development officers, particularly in the northern part of Malda, following further rising of water in the Fulohar river. The BDOs have been asked not to leave till the situation returns to normal. The water level in the Fulohar has increased 30 cm in the past 48 hours and presently the river is flowing at 28.26 metres with rising trend at Teljana gauge station in Malda and could cross the extreme danger level’ (EDL- 28.35 metres), it is feared. According to the irrigation department officials, water in the Fulohar and Mahananda would continue rising for a few days. Thousands of people in the unprotected banks of Fulohar have been affected three times this year. n SNS
