MZP to meet to take major decisions

MALDA, Aug 24: The newly formed Congress led Malda Zilla Parishad (MZP) called a general body meeting on 28 August to adopt some important resolutions including the election of saha sabhadipati and its budget to begin developmental work. It may be recalled that following a court order the newly elected saha sabhadhipati, who was co-opted for the reserved post due to lack of elected tribal member belonging to the Congress, stepped down a few weeks ago. After that the MZP is running without sabhadhipati's deputy. Sources said MZP members will decide to elect another tribal member for this post. On the other hand, to begin developmental work the MZP will finalise its budget, which was officially ‘incomplete’ due to ‘non cooperation’ of the Opposition. The LF members did not support the budget, which was tabled by the then sabhadhipati, and demanded alternation of estimated funds allotted to different projects in the draft budget. The Opposition took opportunities because the LF had a majority of members as a result of which the former sabhadhipati could not pass the budget. n SNS
