Some medicine shops should remain open for 24 hours: DM


MALDA, Aug. 29: The district magistrate Mr CR Das today held a meeting with the medicine shop owners’ association urging them to keep some of their shops at English bazaar town for 24 hours.The district magistrate ensured them that all necessary arrangements for their security will be provided at night. In Malda, only a few shops close to the Malda district hospital, remain open at night. The medicine shop owners’ association assured the district magistrate that they would soon submit a list of the medicine shops. Last evening, the district magistrate and top officials held a meeting with the members of IMA of Malda, health service association, the chief medical officer and chairman of English Bazaar municipality to keep open a few private doctors chambers on Sundays. It was decided that IMA would convey their decision in seven days and they would also submit the list of doctors in major streams who will keep open their chambers on Sundays. It was also decided that with the private doctors chambers some pathological units close to doctors’ area, would provide services on Sundays. The chief medical officer of health Dr R R Banik has informed the district magistrate that he would increase one more doctor in the emergency department of the Malda district hospital on Sundays. Dr RR Banik has expressed inability to depute doctors due to lack of present staff strength in district hospitals. n SNS
