FIR against school secretary following roof collapse

MALDA, Aug 22: The Malda SDO yesterday lodged an FIR against the school secretary Mr Nural Hoque of Nayabazaar High School for negligence of his responsibility after a roof of a school building collapsed and injured several students on Independence Day. Police today raided Mr Hoque's house, but could not arrest him. Police have informed the administrative officials that the secretary of school is absconding.The sub divisional officer Ms Arunima De today asked police to arrest the school secretary. The district magistrate Mr CR Das had issued an order to take action against the school authorities after going through the report of block development officer in Kaliachak II. The SDO said inquiry revealed that inspite of being secretary of the school he did not take care of the building during construction. “He committed a criminal offence”, she said, adding “How did a concrete pillar, which was constructed two months ago, collapse?”Following the instruction from the district magistrate the district inspector of schools Mr Chinmay Sarkar yesterday sought clarification from the school authorities within 48 hours. “I have sought a detailed report of the incident from them. After receiving their reply I would inform it to the board,” Mr Sarkar said. n SNS
