MALDA, Sept. 26: Newly married Bablu Sheikh (20) committed suicide by hanging himself after being separated forcibly from his wife, family members said.
The incident took place at Gangarampur village under Kaliachak police station last night. Family members found him hanging in his room this morning.
Bablu, a labour supplier by profession, was in a relation with Rimpa since six years and planned to marry her when she crossed 18 year without the consent of their parents. He eloped with her twenty-five days ago. Photographs and marriage registration papers were recovered from his room.
They came to Malda town and decided to settle here. But five days after their marriage the girls father, Mr Naimuddin Ahmed, a schoolteacher, was against their decision. He later met Bablu's father, Mr Kamrul Hoque and said that he wanted a proper wedding ceremony for her daughter.
On hearing this proposal, Bablu's father, a clerk of a madrassa covinced Rimpa to go back. Returning back, Rimpa was confined to her home and Mr Naimuddin Ahmed refused to send her back to Bablu. It was also reported that Rimpa had to get married to a guy of her father's choice. No complaint has been lodged so far. The victim's body has been cremated. n SNS
