MALDA, Sept. 4: Customs officials intercepted fly ash loaded lorries with a large quantity of sandalwood stashed for smuggling to Bangladesh through the Mahadipur checkpost in English Bazaar police station today. Officials from the director of revenue (intelligence) came to the Mahadipur Land Customs Station today and detected the contraband. Both the customs department and the BSF had information about the illegal trade. According to the assistant commissioner customs Mr AR Nayek, revenue officials detained six people on charges of smuggling red sandalwood. The sandalwood was stashed in lorries of fly ash by a Cooch Behar based exporter Mr S Karmakar. n sns
