Gour Banga varsity to have new PG courses

MALDA, Sept. 23: The University of Gour Banga has plans to introduce seven campus post graduation courses from December this year, the registrar Mr. Tapas Kumar Chatterjee said today.

Since the university does not have its own building at present, it has plans to start these courses in four colleges in Malda as a temporary arrangement for morning shift.

The four colleges that have been selected by the university authorities are Malda College, Gour Malda College, Malda Women’s College and Malda B Ed College.

According to the registrar, initially the university had planned to introduce campus courses like English, Bengali, Sanskrit, Arabic, History, Education and Mathematics based on the demand of secondary and higher secondary school education services through school service commission.

Notification for admission of students will be published soon and admission forms will be issued from 15 to 31 October.

Mr. Tapas Kumar Chatterjee, registrar of the UGB, said the process of admission will be completed by 30 November and classes for the post graduation campus courses, which will follow the semester system, will commence from first week of December.

The university authorities have decided to publish an advertisement by September 25 for the recruitment of regular teachers for 49 posts in UGB, including professors, readers, and lecturers following government’s reservation system, he informed.

In another development the state has sanctioned Rs. 1.24 crore for the construction of a boundary wall of the selected site of the UGB in English Bazaar town. Of this, Rs.15 lakh has been released and Rs. 20 lakh will be released soon, university officials said today.

At present estimated cost of its proposed plan of the university building is nearly Rs. 70 crore and it would be submitted to the government in early November.
