82-year old prays for a path to heaven

MALDA, 15 NOV: An eighty-two year old man, Mr Binoy Kumar Mandal, who was suffering from paralysis for the last decade, today organised a prayer at his home to get peace in heaven.

This incident took place at Nam-Jote Aarapur village under Kotwali gram panchayat in English Bazaar town.

Mr Mandal has distributed all his properties equally to his four sons and five daughters today. He has also donated Rs 1 lakh to Radha-Gobinda Mandir, a temple close to his house for the construction of its boundary wall.

More than 400 neighbours including more than 45 relatives were invited to join puja. Nam sankirtan, songs of God and Goddess, and a banquet organised by his family members today since morning.

The menu was prepared according to his desire of Mr. Mandal.

“My father wanted to go to Haridwar and also Varanasi to offer prayers to get peace in life. But we could not arrange the tour for him because he can not move out”, Mr Barun Kumar Mandal, his son, said.

“For the last three years, my father was expressing his desire to hold such a programme at home having failed to bear sufferings. We did not agree to his proposal. We held such a programme for his mental satisfaction”.

Ten years ago, Mr Mandal's wife Chamalata died. After her death, he became alone. One of his sons Barun Kumar Mandal was looking after him.

“I am happy with all my relatives. I decided to meet together and a feast for them because I wanted to see all of my relatives and neighbours at home altogether before my death”, said Mr Binoy Kumar Mandal, wearing new cloths and associated with all his family members.

“I am tired of lying in bed for over 12 years”, he said.

He has nearly 10 acres mango orchards, 10 acres paddy field, two ponds and other properties including cattle rearing which were distributed among his family members.

The locals today started construction of a boundary wall of the temple to mark his name.
