Agencies to monitor Malda work

MALDA, 5 NOV.:
To monitor the development work in two municipalities, the Malda district administration will set up DUDA (district urban development agency) soon. Following the guidelines of the state the agency will function under the control of the district magistrate. State government has created some posts including the DMDO (district municipal development officer) to run the agency.
In the state level the SUDA ( state urban development agency) will functioning for the overall monitoring for the overall monitoring of development work carried out by the civic bodies in urban areas. It will also provide financial support to run the DUDA.
On 30 October, SUDA held a meeting in Kolkata with the district officials including the officer in charge of municipal affairs of the district magistrate offices and asked them to set up DUDA soon.
According to the officer in charge, municipal affairs in Malda, Mr. Swapan Rakshit, a governing body will have to be formed for setting up DUDA here. The agency will keep an eye on various developmental projects sponsored by both state and Central government.
The DUDA will mainly stress on the need to execute poverty eradication mission under the Swarna Jayanti Sahari Rojgar Yojona and take initiative to implement multipurpose plans of the government for self employment generation.
Besides, it will implement national social assistance programme selecting beneficiaries under the Indira Gandhi old age pension, widow pension and disability pension schemes for the people belong under the BPL.
The DMDO will also monitor national family development schemes.
Under the scheme a family will be getting financial assistance of Rs.10, 000 in case a primary wage earner of a BPL family dies. The district officer will also supervise the development of slum areas including its present housing project and integrated low cost sanitation project.
