Statesman News Service
MALDA, 11 NOV: Two persons were killed and a 13-year-old boy was injured due to clashes in different places between two criminal groups, belonging to the CPI-M and the Congress, in Kaliachak police station area, since the last evening, police said today. According to police, trouble broke out when an innocent person was shot dead in Kaiachak town last evening. The deceased has been identified as Ishak Sheikh (28). He succumbed to his injures in Malda district hospital last night. Isahak, a local small trader, was shot when he tried to nab a group of goons who came posing as buyers to a showroom and set it on fire. The owner of the building, Mr Asadullah Biswas, is a leader of one criminal group at Majampur, belonging to the CPI-M. Another person, Hefajuddin Sheikh (48), a farmer, was shot dead at a spot located at Narayanpur near Majampur, when he came to his filed for working this morning. Later in the day, another boy was injured near Majampur due to clash between the two groups. The thirteen-year-old boy, Aijul was admitted to Malda district hospital. It may be noted that there was a turf war between Mr Asadullha Biswas in Majampur and Mr Tuhur Biswas at Narayanpur, who belongs to the Congress, over illegal trade along border. Since last night the police started raid in Majampur and Narayanpur areas but failed to nab the criminals. “Situation is under control now. We could not arrest the criminals. We are trying to identify who committed the crime. Raid will continue until the arrest is made”, said Mr Bhuban Mandal, the Malda SP. “Most shocking thing is that innocent people are being killed due to clash between two criminal groups. I cannot understand how the political parties provide shelter to them who are hardcore criminals themselves”, said Mr Mandal.
