Rly police in trouble over assault charges

MALDA, 29 NOV.: Government railway police in Malda town station initiated a case against two personnel of Railway Protection Force on charges of allegedly assaulting a man last night. The victim, Mr Hemanta Kumar Mallick, who is also principal-in-charge of a private B Ed college here, lodged a complaint with the GRP today. According to the complaint, one RPF jawan, Mr Ashok Sarkar asked Mr Mallick for his ticket when he was roaming in front of a new ticket counter in Malda town station around 12.30 am. Mr Mallick did not show his ticket and refused to obey Mr Sarkar's ‘command,’ claiming himself to be the principal of a private college. At this response, the RPF jawan dragged Mr Mallick and detained him in RPF office for few hours. When Mr Mallick protested, Mr Sarkar and his colleague, Mr Dhiraj Singh allegedly assaulted him severely in the camp office.
Mr Mallick was helpless at that moment and disclosed everything about himself. He explained why he was in Malda town station at mid-night, and then got released, post some bitter experiences. Mr Mallick was waiting to receive someone, who was scheduled to come to Malda town station by train last night.
Mr PK Das, IC GRP in Malda town station, told reporters that police started a case against the RPF jawans on the basis of the complaint lodged by Mr Mallick. Mr Mallick was medically examined by doctors after the incident. The RPF officials refused to comment before inquiry. SNS
