Assault slur on Cong MLA

MALDA, July 30: Members of the CPI-M backed women’s wing are planning to stage demonstrations in English Bazaar town against the Congress MLA, Mr KN Choudhury, who allegedly slapped Mrs Jyotsna Choudhury, the CPI-M pradhan of Binodpur Gram Panchayat, during the general body meeting of the English Bazaar panchayat samiti here yesterday. Two CPI-M panchayat members, including Mrs Jyotsna Choudhury, have lodged complaints with the English Bazaar police station against Mr KN Choudhury, police said. Mrs Choudhury complained in her written statement that the English Bazaar MLA heckled and slapped her in presence of the other GP members. Mr KN Choudhury, on the other hand, had also lodged a complaint with the police, accusing Mrs Choudhury and her associates of assaulting him.The English Bazaar block office turned into a battlefield yesterday and police fhad to intervene to bring the situation under control. “The CPI-M members, including the sabhapati, insulted me when I approached them, in the capacity of an ex-officio member, to submit developmental schemes for preparing an yearly action plan for English Bazaar block”, Mr Choudhury alleged. The CPI-M leaders, however, have refuted the allegation and lashed out at Mr Choudhury for allegedly misbehaving with the woman members of the panchayat samiti.
