Four die in Malda accident re-run

MALDA July 27: Less than a week after the death of 12 persons of a wedding party in a fatal road mishap at Maheshpur in Malda’s Bamongola police station area, four people were killed and 12 others injured when a state bus collided head-on with an overcrowded trekker at 8 Mile in the Gazole police station area last night.Police said one person died on the spot in yesterday’s accident and three others succumbed to their injuries at the Malda district hospital later. The victims have been identified as, Mangli Besra (30), Sufal Soren (23), Udish Raj Bangshi (25) and Babulal Hembram. The condition of two of the injured passengers is stated to be serious. They are being treated at the Malda district hospital. The Malda district administration has announced that the next of the kin of those killed in yesterday’s mishap would get Rs 10,000 each, and the injured persons will be treated free of cost at the Malda district hospital.Meanwhile, officials are upset with frequent road mishaps in the district. They are blaming the uncontrolled transport system and reckless driving for these accidents.“We will collect a report from the Gazole BDO and send the same to the state government for necessary action”, the SDO of Malda sadar, said.It may be recalled that last Saturday, 12 tribal people, all members of a wedding party, were killed in a road mishap at Maheshpur village when a mini truck carrying them overturned, as the driver of the ill-fated vehicle had allegedly been driving in a drunken state.
