MALDA, July 19: Police have failed to identify culprits responsible for firing at a senior CPI-M district committee member, Mr Abdur Rouf, yesterday in front of Dariapur Madrasa where he teaches. Mr DK Mondal, the Malda SP, said that he received a complaint from Mr Rouf yesterday, in which he has named a few people who attacked him.Mr Mondal said: “ Police is investigating the matter to find out the reason behind the attack on Mr Rouf. We cannot draw a conclusion now”. Mr Mondal also refrained from commenting on an allegation that the wounded CPI-M leader, Mr Abdur Rouf, has been registered as an absonder in the police records. He said: “ I have nothing to say on this issue. Police initiated a suo-motu case against him on the issue of a blast in his house. But it was found that Mr Rouf had vacated his house six months back. There is no other case filed against him”. Mr Abdur Rouf is CPI-M’s Malda Zilla Parishad member and husband of former Sabhadhipati of MZP.
