MALDA, July 13: Milan Kundu, a popular artiste of English Bazaar town was arrested today along with two of his relatives on charges of torturing his wife, Kakali Kundu (23), who apparently committed suicide after killing her 15-month- old daughter last night, police said.Kakali’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence today with her daughter tied onto her back, police said. It was learnt that Milan Kundu, a well-known artiste in English Bazaar married Kakali two years ago and used to reside with his elder brother, Apurba and his family in the same house in the English Bazaar town. Kakali’s mother, Shaktibala Das, alleged that Milan was having an extra-marital affair with his brother’s wife and Kakali had come to know this truth some time back. Mrs Das said: “My daughter was very depressed after knowing that Milan was having an extra-marital affair. Due to this, there was a lot of tension between the couple. Even the birth of a child failed to improve matters between them.” No comments was available from Milan relatives on this issue. It was learnt that Milan was not present last night, when Kakali committed suicide. When Milan returned home and knew about the matter, he allegedly ran away. Police interrogated the Milan’s neighbours and relatives today. Mr Dilip Kumar Mondal, Malda SP, said: “Though the death seems to be due to suicide, we are waiting for the post-mortem report before giving a final statement. We have arrested Milan and his two relatives on the basis of the allegations received against them. We will find out the truth very soon.”
