MALDA. July 30: Members of the Left Front-backed peasants’ wing of Malda have demanded that the Centre should allot funds in its annual budget to compensate the erosion victims who lost their all after a massive erosion on the left bank of the Ganges here. Leaders of the peasants’ wing, who organised a convention at Bangitola in Kaliachak-II block on 27 June, claimed that the state government has allotted Rs 10 crore in its budget this year for the rehabilitation of erosion victims.“It is now the Centre’s turn to follow the suit,” they said. Circulating leaflets, the leaders of the peasants’ wing have demanded that the Centre should take immediate steps to rehabilitate the beleaguered erosion victims. They also demanded that the state government should immediately conduct a proper survey to identify the erosion victims who actually need the compensation amount. SNS
