No headway in train robbery probe

Statesman News Service
MALDA July 3: Mr SK Darnal, the DSP of GRPF, Siliguri, reached here to probe the robbery that took place in the Kolkata-bound Darjeeling Mail at Kumargunj station on Saturday at midnight. Mr Darnal today held a meeting with the officers of the GRPF at Harishchandrapur, the area where the robbery took place. Although three days have passed, no arrests have been made nor any of the security personnel accused of negligence of duty, taken to task. Mr Darnal said: “From preliminary investigations, it is apparent that the group had manipulated the train signal to turn it red, in order to stop the train and commit the robbery. Raids are being conducted in the area to nab them.” He said they are not ruling out the possibility of involvement of some uncouth railway staff in the crime.
