Administration gears up for foundation ceremony

Statesman News Service
MALDA, March 2: The Malda administration is gearing up for the foundation stone laying ceremony of the proposed Gaur Bango Vishwavidyalay in English Bazaar town on 23 March. Lok Sabha Speaker Mr Somnath Chatterjee is expected to be present at the ceremony. Ruling political leaders had been trying hard to earmark a land specifically for the university before panchayat elections.Though the local committee for the proposed university tried hard to buy land outside English Bazaar town, it had to settle with a government land that belongs to the agriculture department. Nearly 30 acres of land, close to the English Bazaar market has been earmarked, for this educational institution. It may be noted that there are many establishments, which are under progress like Food Park, central bu-s terminus, central mango and litchi research station. The local MLA and minister for environment and state parliamentary affairs minister Mr Sailen Sarkar had approached the district magistrate to write to the head of the department concerned to transfer the land for setting up the university there.
