MALDA, March 18: The Malda district now has two Parliament constitue-ncies and an additional Assembly constituency following the delimitation process. The district had one Parliament seat and 11 Assembly segments earlier. According to the election department officials in Malda, the two Parliament constituencies would be North Malda and South Malda. Two Assembly segments from neighbouring Murshidabad district - Farakka and Samsherganj have been included in the South Malda Parliament constituencies.One the other hand, the Malda district now has a new Assembly segment, which has been named as Mothabari, taking the total number of Assembly segments to 12 in the district.The new election map for Parliament and Assembly constituencies has raised hope for the CPI-M here because two red bastions Habibpur and Gazole have come under the North Malda Parliament constituency. The Marxists now believe they can bag at least one of the two Parliament seats in the district.
