Examiner loses answer scripts

MALDA, March 11: An examiner lost 71 answer scripts of the Bengali second paper of Madhymik examination 2008 in English Bazaar town yesterday.Failing to recover the marked answer sheets the examiner lodged an FIR with the English Bazaar police station late in the evening, the Malda SP Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhayay today said. The missing answer scripts remain untraced till now.Mr Ashok Barui, an assistant teacher of Bengali of Malda Town High School and a selected examiner for the second time in succession, stated before the police that he lost the answer scripts on his way home from school. “I noticed the bag containing the scripts missing at the B Ed College crossing and instantly came back to the spot in search of the bag but could not find it,” Mr Barui said today. “The examiner was riding a two-wheeler and did not notice when the bag containing the scripts fell off,” the SP, said. “The police are trying to find the scripts and an appeal has been sent out to the people,” he said. It is learnt that Mr Barui was to check 206 answer scripts and the lost lot was the first batch of papers. According to sources in the academic circle, the missing papers were of students from Cooch Behar. “Mr Barui had brought the answer scripts to school and was examining those here,” said the principal of the Malda Town High School.Speaking to media persons, Mr Barui today disclosed the marks obtained by some examinees. “All students got pass marks in Bengali second paper. The lowest number was 61. Two of them got more than 70 per cent marks,” he told the reporters.
