Duo arrested for false complaint

MALDA, March 12: Police arrested two persons, who lodged a complaint with the Ratua police station that their motorcycle was stolen, suspecting that the two persons Jamir Ali Biswas and Barek Sheikh were trying to claim the insurance money by lodging a false theft case.The duo, residents of Kaliachak police station area, was produ ced in court today.However, the lawyers of the two arrested persons alleged that police did not bother to entertain their complaints when they went to the police station on 10 March. According to them, police detained the duo when they approached the police again about the matter and finally arrested them on 11 March and produced them to the court today. It may be noted that the two persons went to the Ratua police station and alleged that their two wheeler went missing. “The officials of Ratua police station detained them on the basis of suspicion that they were lying about the entire incident. After interrogation police decided to arrest them”, a senior police officer said.There are several cases in Malda where motorcycle owners have managed insurance claim after police clearance by lodging an FIR, providing false statements. Police sources said that it was found that the owners sold off the two wheeler and claimed the insurance money.
