Mother abandons new-born girl child

MALDA, March:26 A mother abandoned her newborn girl child at the Malda district hospital after being discharged today. It was learnt that the woman, a mother of two daughters did not want the “burden” of a third one.The police took custody of the infant and handed it to the hospital authorities for nursing and care till further development. The police are looking for the mother as well through the hospital records.The woman had disclosed her problem to another patient of the maternity ward about the third girl child. According to Alinoor Bibi, who was in the bed next to the elusive woman, she was undecided about going back home after giving birth to a girl child. “Her husband had warned her that he would not accept her if she gave birth to a girl for the third time,” Alinoor said.The elusive mother had discussed her problem and sought suggestions from Alinoor yesterday. Later when her mother-in-law Kohinoor Bibi came to visit her, she asked her to keep watch on her and left saying she had some work to attend. “I failed to understand her motive. I took her baby and kept waiting for her to return but she did not come back,” stated Kohinoor Bibi. n sns
