4 Killed , 30 injured in twin accidents

MALDA, Aug. 13: Four persons were killed and 30 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Malda, police said today. An overcrowded taxi lost control and overturned at Amrity in English Bazaar police station area yesterday, killing four persons and injuring at least 25 passengers, including many students, police said. On the other hand, a prison van collided with a lorry on NH-34 in Malda police station late last night, injuring five people, including two under-trials. A police team from Jalpaiguri had been returning from Kolkata along with the undertrials when the accident occurred. The under-trials were taken to Kolkata for treatment, police said. The Malda district magistrate, Mr Chittaranjan Das, yesterday visited the Malda district hospital where the injured passengers of the taxi were admitted.
