Fresh teachers face scrutiny

MALDA, Aug 7: The district inspector of schools (secondary education) has expedited the verification of some fake educational certificates allegedly submitted by certain newly appointed teachers of schools and madrassas. Suspecting 25 such educational certificates to be fake ones, the district inspector of schools recently forwarded these to various boards, councils and universities for verification.Authorities said most of the certificates have been sent to universities located outside the state of West Bengal. The district inspector of schools, Mr Tapan Basu, said: “If we find that these educational certificates submitted by the teachers are fake, we will not be disburse their salary.”. Mr Basu pointed that the said certificates are suspected to be technically misleading and has thus been sent to concerned authorities for verification. Sources said that a group of teachers have been appointed as assistant teachers recently who have managed higher education certificates from Gasiramdas University in Vilaspur, Chattishgarh, Sidhu Kanhu (Murmu) University at Dumka in Jharkhand, Tilka Majhi University in Bhagalpur in Bihar, Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj University in Kanpur and others. The district inspector of schools pointed out major focus is being to the verification of certificates that are carrying the name of universities not mentioned in the list of institutions affiliated to the University Grant Commission up to 1985. “ We need to update and verify all certificates through the internet as all universities upload their yearly results on it, just like the board of secondary and higher education”, Mr Basu disclosed. “We have spoken to the SSC authorities about the matter and requested them to keep close watch on submitted educational certificates, as the practice of procuring fake certificates of higher education is widespread here”, Mr Basu said.#
