Ghani Khan's borther files nomination

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Aug. 29: Congress candidate Mr AH Khan Choudhury today submitted his nomination papers for the Malda Lok Sabha by-poll to the district magistrate in the company of his sister, Mrs Rubi Noor and other Congress leaders, in the style of his elder brother, the late Congress stalwart, ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury. The only exception to the ceremony was the presence of the Union minister, Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, who had brought an authorisation letter from Mrs Sonia Gandhi for symbol allotment. Just like the late Congress leader, ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury, who offered prayers at the famous Manaskamana temple and the Pirane Pir, a sacred religious place of worship for Muslims at Soudullhapur, before filing his nomination for Parliamentary election, his brother, Mr AH Khan Choudhury, too, paid obeisance at the Manaskamana Mandir today before turning up at the district magistrate’s office for filing his nomination. After the nomination papers were submitted by the Malda Congress candidate, Mr AH Khan Choudhury, his sister, Mrs Rubi Noor, MLA and Congress district president, expressed her happiness with the Trinamul Supremo, Miss Mamata Banerjee’s decision to support the Congress in the forthcoming Malda by-poll ignoring the party’s official alliance with the BJP. “We are grateful to Miss Mamata Banerjee for her gesture,” said Mrs Rubi Noor. Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, the information and broadcasting minister, said that they had approached political leaders, including the chief minister of West Bengal and requested them not to nominate any candidate in the forthcoming Malda by-poll. Mr Das Munshi said only the Trinamul Congress had accepted their proposal. “I approached these ministers because it was a question of paying last respects to a great leader of Bengal, who passed away in mid-way of the parliamentary term,” Mr Das Munshi said. The entire election process for the Congress party would be handled by Mr Das Munshi.
