Hot water sample sent for test to Kolkata

Statesman News Service
MALDA, Aug. 13: The sample of the hot water that is being emitted from a rat hole in a paddy field at Kailashpur village here since Tuesday has been sent by the local PHE department to its Kolkata office for Sulphur testing owing to inadequate infrastructure here, the Malda district magistrate, Mr Chittaranjan Das, said. Mr Das informed that he has also communicated the matter to the director of the Geological Survey of India via fax.A team of Geological Survey of India (GSI) experts is expected to visit the region by next week, he said. The Malda DM said he wanted to know if the water contained Sulphur as this might also turn out be a source of spring water. It was learnt that the Malda DM has deployed police forces to control the visiting people, who gather everyday to see the hot water being emitted from the rat hole at Kailashpur village. Some of them reportedly tried to collect the water for drinking purpose hoping it to contain curing properties of hot spring water. They have been advised by the administration to defer from doing so.
