Criminals attack policemen


MALDA, Aug 18: Four police officials were attacked by criminals at Chaspara village under Kaliachak police station today, when they reached the village to sort out a clash between two groups. Malda SP Mr Dilip Mondal said that police had to open fire in the air to disperse the criminals after they attacked the police officials by throwing bombs. Mr Mondal said that nobody was wounded in police firing. Police today rushed to Chaspara village on receiving information that two groups of criminals had got involved in a clash. The criminals reportedly hurled bombs paralysing normal life of locals in Chaspara under Kaliachak police station. Police said that nobody has been arrested so far, but police are raiding the area to nab the culprits.“The criminals took advantage of the fact that a new inspector-in-charge has been appointed for Kalichak police station after the transfer of Mr Timir Banerjee,” said Mr Mondal.n SNS
Man held with fake currency notes

MALDA, Aug. 18: Police arrested a man and seized 10 notes of Rs 1000 denomination here today. The man was arrested after authorities from the State Bank of India informed police that the man had deposited a huge sum in fake currency at the bank today. The Malda SP, Mr DK Mondal, said that police would send the notes to Nasik where authorities concerned will finally declare if the currency notes were fake. #
