MLA fires corruption salvo

MALDA, Aug. 1: The English Bazaar MLA, Mr KN Choudhury, today said that he will lodge a complaint with the state panchayat minister, Mr Surya Kanta Mishra, regarding alleged ongoing financial corruption in the English Bazaar Panchayat Samiti. The Left Front leaders, however, alleged that Mr Choudhury has taken the step to counter his act of slapping a female CPI-M member of the panchayat samiti during a meeting at the English Bazaar Panchayat office meeting here on Saturday. The incident, it may be recalled, had created a furore here.
Marijuana
MALDA, Aug. 1:
Police arrested four persons, including a woman, from Kothabari under the English Bazaar police station area today for their alleged involvement in illegal trade of Marijuana. More than one kilogram of Marijuana was seized from their possession. Preliminary investigations stated the Marijuana was brought from the North-eastern states to be sold to local counters in Malda and South Bengal. SNS
BJP plea
MALDA, Aug. 1:
Malda BJP leaders today submitted a memorandum to the ASP regarding the case of alleged attempt to rape and murder of a 12-year old girl in the Bamongola area here a few days back. The BJP leaders have demanded exemplary punishment against the culprits so that peace can finally be restored to Bakchar village adjoining the Indo-Bangladesh border, from where the girl hailed. SNS
