MALDA, Aug. 28: Malda police have so far not been able to arrest those involved in committing robbery in the house of a cable operator and brick kiln owner at Nabanganj in the Malda police station area last night. The dacoity, it was learnt, occurred last night probably around 8 p.m., while many people were returning from the weekly haat, allegedly in the presence of police officers patrolling the area. According to preliminary reports, a group of eight armed robbers entered the house of the cable operator at Nabanganj and forcibly seized the keys from him, before scampering away with all valuables from the lockers. After the theft, local residents vented their ire on the police officials patrolling the area and even damaged their vehicles. They alleged that the police have failed to check crime in the area. The Malda SP, Mr Dilip Kumar Mondal, has expressed his regret over the incident.
