Fresh clash over murder of minor girl

MALDA , Aug. 3 : A fresh clash broke out at Nalagola in Malda’s Bamongola police station area today on the issue of the alleged attempt to rape and murder of a 12-year-old-girl on 29 July.As the people of two communities joined in a fierce clash against each other, police had to open two rounds of fire in the air to disperse the mob. Thirteen persons have been arrested on the charge of initiating today’s clash, the Malda additional superintendent of police, Mr Debashis Boral, said.The Malda district administration officials have brought the matter to the notice of the state government, seeking the latter’s permission to deploy more police forces in the area to maintain law and order situation, officials said.Trouble broke out following a scuffle between the two groups after the completion of a meeting organised by the Malda district Congress leaders in the area this evening. Members of a minority community allegedly protested against the arrest of one of their members on charges of attempting to rape and killing a 12-year-old-girl at Bakchar village, close to the India- Bangladesh border, on 29 July, police said. “There might be some personal reasons behind today’s clash but some people are trying to give it a communal colour which is very unfortunate,” Mr Chittaranjan Das, the Malda district magistrate, said.He added that senior police officials, including the ASP, BDO, SDO and ADM have reached the area to take stock of the situation.
